Day 9~Ding Ding~Night Out

On the street in front of our hotel, there is a network of double decker trolleys. Every day, Alex asked if we could ride the ding ding. I don't think that is the real name, but Phil called it that, and then Alex and Zachary started to call it that too, so, ding ding it is! We rode the first trolley to the end of the line, which was a street market that specialized in produce, fish and clothes. At a bakery the boys each picked out a pastry. Zachary's was a pineapple bun. Alex's was something else. When I asked him what it tasted like, he said "bun". Our original plan was to get further down the line, so we picked up another ding ding, changed our plan again, and just rode to the end of the network line. We immediately hopped back on and headed back to the hotel. Without the break, it was a very long, hot ride, but the boys had a blast, and we all had the opportunity to see more of the "real" Hong Kong, outside of the touristy areas we had been around. The whole day of ding ding riding was a very reasonable (cheap) $3!
Here's a bunch of pictures that show the different areas, and the crazy antics of the boys.

Phil arranged to have a sitter come to the hotel for the evening. Miss Tania came from an agency that specializes in getting nannies and one time sitters for English speaking families visiting or living in Hong Kong. Miss Tania is a British National who was raised in Hong Kong and was so sweet and the boys were very excited to tell her all about their trip. She told us later that they stayed hyper long after we left. Yikes!
We went to a nice Chinese restaurant for dinner. The food wasn't what we were expecting, but it was really good. The service was almost excessively attentive, and I was worried I was eating wrong. The hovering made me nervous, but it seems to be a cultural thing, since the servers did this everywhere. Afterward, we went in search of the Temple Street night market. We had a lot of fun experiencing the nightlife of Hong Kong. It is very bright and flashy and just as crowded as mid day.
