Day 7~Peak Tram~Aviary~Avenue of the Stars

This sculpture is called "The People of Hong Kong" and is in front of one of the hotels.

We started our day with a walk through Hong Kong Park on the way to the Peak Tram. Hong Kong Park has a lot of fun things to see, there were multiple koi ponds, an aviary, a zoo (which we didn't get to experience... next time), an Olympic pavilion and a wedding chapel and garden. We saw a bridal party having pictures on our way back to the hotel. How everyone looked so pretty and fresh and not sweaty is a wonder!

We purchased our tickets for the Peak Tram, and only had to wait a few minutes for the tram car to arrive. It is technically a funicular car, and the tracks are very steep. Once we made it to the top, we headed straight to the viewing platform, about another 6 or 7 stories up. Even up so high, there was no breeze (which seems to be a theme to this trip) and it was a bit hazy. Even with the haze, we were able to see a lot of Hong Kong in sweeping views.
After checking out the 360 view, we found a playground for the boys to run around. It was great to be able to let them run and climb.

The information center was in an old tram car, so that was lots of fun for the boys to play on too. We walked around the various stores before settling on some of those decoration thingys for the boys' crocs. I know, big spenders. It started to rain as we were heading back down.

Oh goody, wet rails! Somehow the ride down seemed a lot steeper than going up.

We're holding the camera level, the angle was amazing.
The line to board the tram was incredibly long, even with the rain and diminished views. We were so thankful to have had an early start!

And, of course the rain had picked up, so we were doomed for a wet walk back to the hotel.
When it rains, it pours, and pours! Even though we were already soaked, we decided to duck into the aviary in Hong Kong Park. The entrance was covered, so we waited out a bit of the rain and then walked through to see the beautiful birds.

We finally made it back to the hotel, changed out of our dripping clothes and settled in for our first nap of the trip!
After the boys woke up from their nap, we heard a drumming sound. We looked out the window and saw a protest going down the street. Phil said "it's a protest" and Zachary shouted "I want to be in it!"
Our evening didn't work out the way we had planned. Here's how it was supposed to go. Since the boys had napped, we thought it would be a good night to have a nice Chinese, sit down dinner, tour the Avenue of the Stars (Hong Kong's Walk of Fame) and watch the light show from the Kowloon side. Here's what actually happened. When we exited the MTR on Kowloon, it was raining again. Not wanting to get wet again, we went back underground to try to find a dinner place. Finally we pulled out the guide book and settled on a place that sounded nice. We asked for directions and set off, even though it was still raining a bit. The walk took a lot longer than we were led to believe it would, and when we finally found the place, it was still an hour until dinner service. Sadly, this led us to the lame decision of an American steakhouse, and as if to remind us of our lameness, the food was not very good. But, there is still the light show!

We walked along the Avenue of Stars and saw the statue of Bruce Lee and Alex and Phil found Jet Li's star. Zachary and Alex had a hard time waiting for the light show to start, but once it did, they enjoyed it.

Our taxi driver didn't know where we asked him to go, so Phil had to talk to the dispatcher. But we made it back to the hotel, and if nothing else, the evening was an adventure!
Probably because of the neon, this building starred in the view from our room.
